Hey guys. I feel like every year I decide to read more classics, then I never do, and I really want this year to be different. I’m actually currently over 100 pages into Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte and it’s making me feel really motivated to read more classics. So here are some other classics I want to read this year.
As I said, I’m currently reading Wuthering Heights, and that is because of the Bronte Book Club (here is the announcement video and goodreads group if you are interested) that Lucy over at lucythereader is hosting this year. I thought that joining in with the book club would help motivate me to read more classics, and so far its working. The other books for that book club are:
- Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte
- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
- The Complete Poems of Emily Bronte
- Shirley by Charlotte Bronte
- The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte
I also really want to read at least one Jane Austen this year. At the moment I am leaning more towards Northanger Abbey, but I also own Emma and Pride and Prejudice so I might end up picking up one of those first.
Another author I really want to read at least one book from is Thomas Hardy. I don’t own any of his book yet, but I’m leaning towards either Jude the Obscure or Tess of the D’Urbervilles because my mum said those are her favourite Thomas Hardy books.
The last classic I really want to read this year is Evelina by Frances Burney. I’ve heard that Frances Burney was a major influence for Jane Austen, so I really want to read this before I read Jane Austen.
I’ll probably revisit this at the end of the year and see how I did.
